Man receives 13 years for drunk driving crash

On Behalf of | Jun 6, 2016 | Drunk Driving |

Everyone knows that getting behind the wheel of a vehicle when you’re intoxicated is not only illegal but irresponsible. Without being fully awake and aware, driving can be one of the most dangerous things a person does. Despite this, there are times when you may need to drive or you drive believing you’re sober. If you’re stopped and are over the limit, then you could be charged with a crime. Before you accept the penalties for the crimes you’re accused of, your attorney should review your case; you are entitled to a fair trial.

In this case, a 38-year-old man was charged for driving drunk and causing a collision that killed a man in March 2015. The news reports that the man has been sentenced to 13 years in prison for the head-on collision and the wrongful death of the other driver.

The story reports that the 56-year-old victim was forced off the road when the 38-year-old man’s vehicle crossed the center line and hit his truck. The truck went off the road and into an embankment where the man was found and pronounced dead at the scene.

Initially, the prosecution tried to charge the 38-year-old man with murder. However, the man pleaded not guilty and then later appeared to plead to amended charges. Those charges include third-degree criminal mischief and first-degree manslaughter. Because the man previously had been charged and convicted of alcohol abuse, public intoxication and driving under the influence, he will not be able to be released early or be placed on probation, according to the judge. He will, while in prison, be referred to an alcohol abuse treatment program.
