A look at age and whether or not it factors into divorce

On Behalf of | Jun 7, 2018 | Divorce |

For many, age is simply a number. For others, age can mean a lot more in life. What about age when it comes to divorce? Does age really make a difference when it comes to divorce? Again, for some it might make a difference. For others, it might have no effect whatsoever on a couple’s divorce. Let’s take a brief look at how age and divorce mesh in Elizabethtown, Kentucky.

For starters, divorce can be more likely for couples that have a gap in age. Even though many couples with a large age gap make it work, the gap can have a big impact on divorce. The age gap can lead to opposite tastes in activities such as movies, music and TV shows. It can also lead to opposite values since the spouses might be from different generations.

How does getting married at a young age affect divorce? One study from the Institute for Family Studies suggests that waiting to get married can be more beneficial for your relationship. For couples who get married under the age of 25, there is a slightly higher risk of getting divorced compared to those who get married later in their 20s. At the same time, the study found that there is an increased risk in divorce if the couple waited to get married until they were in their 30s.

As age increases, so does the rate of divorce. Gray divorce, which is a divorce that includes someone age 50 or older, has become very common within the past 10-plus years. More and more people from the baby boomer generation are not worried about the stigma of divorce anymore.

As you can see, age can play some sort of role in divorce in Kentucky. It doesn’t matter how young or how old you are, you are not exempt from getting divorced.
